Happy Halloween!!

The t-shirt reads "I brake for burly girls." We had a crazy Halloween party at the abandoned Crow Creek Mine on Saturday night. Bluegrass music by Anchorage band Belugarass made the dancing great! There were some very creative costumes. I am proud to announce thatI received the Miss Girdwood Halloween award. I am so honored.

Alaska style

The sun is nowhere to be found, we are losing seven minutes of daylight everyday as we approach solstice and the temps hover just above freezing. Sounds like a perfect reason to go SURFING!

October is the perfect time of year for surfing in Alaska. It is when the big storms come in and the surf is really up. Unfortunately for us greenhorn surfers we were not exactly able to surf, it was more like getting pummled. Fun anyways!

After the pummelling and puking off of the surf boards due to sea sickness we tried our hands at fishing for halibut and salmon. Only in Alaska!

Happy Birthday Aubrie Jane

I live way too far from my niece and she is growing up too fast. She is now one year old and walking(fast) and talking. Sadly, I know all of this from videos and pictures:(

I ran across a funny quote today by Jean Kerr:
"I'm tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That's deep enough. What do you want, an adorable pancreas?"

Another good idea:In preperation for Christmas. You might consider making Christmas gifts. There is a great web site called Not Martha

Pumpkins and Loose Lips

Last night we had a pumpkin carving party. Over a dozen pumpkins were carved with awesome creativity.

It was fun getting willing participants to loosen their lips and shake their heads for the camera. You can see more of the photos here.

Natural Disasters

With Mother Nature hitting hard in the past few weeks, it was nice to go out kayaking and take in the fresh air that she provides.

Laughter has been the best medicine for these rainy days in Girdwood, Alaska. www.cryingwhileeating.com keeps me smiling.

Another GREAT idea

Steve and I just recently did a backpacking trip up The Crow Creek Valley in Alaska. It was a rainy cold trip and at the end of the day we built a big fire to dry our gear and to warm our tootsies. Damn if those boots didn't go up into flames! That synthetic fabric is highly flammable. I hobbled out the ten miles the next day in my custom, fried boot clogs.

The GREAT idea: Don't dry your boots too close to the fire.

Another GREAT idea from my dad: Maybe a book on camping 101 would be helpful.
